My Upcoming Japan Tour (2) 4月の日本ツアー (その2)

Before I knew it, my annual Japan tour is coming up soon in the second half of April. I am hoping for the best that we can complete the tour without a hitch.

This tour with 8 shows in 4 cities - Osaka, Kyoto, Nagoya, and Tokyo - will be my effort to integrate what I have done playing the blues over the past few decades. After this tour I will move back from Chicago to San Francisco South Bay, where I came from, and continue playing the blues.

Last year I started playing a left handed guitar upside down, namely the strings are in the reverse order (I am right handed). This is the style that was played by the left handed blues guitar greats such as Otis Rush and Albert King.

Because the lighter gauge strings are closer to the chest, it has more room to bend the higher notes by pulling the strings down. It creates deep bluesy sound.

It is easier said than done to play this style. I have more fluency now as compared to when I adopted this method. But as they say, the more you know, the more you know what you don’t know.

I will bring my lefty guitar to Japan in my humble tribute to the late greatest Mr. Otis Rush who recently passed away.
