In Chicago (17)

For the first couple of months after I came to Chicago last Fall, I randomly attended as many blues jam sessions in town as possible. I have been more focused lately. It was an efficient way of networking.

Recently several bands have always let me sit in on their stage so that I can gain exposure in public. I am also grateful for the club owners and staff who have been very supportive.

I now have a good network with the local musicians to start my own band activity, in parallel with seeking some freelance work or a band to join.

The next phase is to increase my gig booking, but this will be the most difficult and time consuming. There are many high quality blues musicians in this town, and yet the number of venues to perform is limited.

In any case, Chicago winter is no joke after I lived on the West Coast for over twenty some years. But it is one of the ingredients for Chicago Blues.

I realize that Sonny Boy's "Nine Below Zero" well represents the blues in Winter here.
