In Chicago (8)

Two months have passed since I came to live in Chicago. Up to this point I have been able to significantly extend my network thanks to many people who helped me to make this town my new home.

The longer I stay here, the more I am convinced that the intensity of blues music that Chicago has to offer is incomparable to anywhere else.

It is also clear to me that the style of music I admire most - the 60's Westside Chicago Blues sound developed by those guitar greats such as Otis Rush and Magic Sam - is difficult to find nowadays even in Chicago. It is in a minority from the main stream if not extinguished.

However, if I keep my ears open to the newer style of blues, there is plenty of great music happening nightly that I do not have enough time to keep up with all of it.

I came to Chicago this time in an attempt to pursue my career. I do not know how long it will take, or even whether it is possible to find or create a "steady" job in this town. But, I am going for broke till I fold. Most importantly I want to play the blues to my heart's content.

My recent effort is focused on hitting Halsted Street where many blues musicians seem to hang out. In the mean time, I have to go get some winter clothes.
