In Chicago (18)

I did not come to Chicago just to experience the blues scene or to train myself to improve my performance. I came here to find a job.

So what am I trying to sell to the audience that is unique to me? It is certainly not my background as Japanese. It is the fact that I have been digging Chicago Blues for 40 years now and it is in my soul.

However, if I stick with only the traditional style of Chicago Blues, I realize that it would be difficult to find a venue to play even in Chicago nowadays. The music has evolved into modern sounds, and so has the taste of blues fans.

When people make noise and start dancing to the music I play, it gives me pleasure. But nothing is more gratifying than when I feel spiritually connected with the audience by playing the blues.

I will see whether I will be bounced back by this big city or not. Till then, I do need to give my best shot.
